What should we celebrate in the month of April during these difficult times, I know…National OT Month!
Some of you may be asking yourself, what is OT or Occupational Therapy?
Well, Occupational Therapy is a profession that assists people throughout their lifetime to do the things they desire and need to do through the therapeutic use of daily activities (occupations). Occupational therapists (OT) and Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTA) enable people of all ages to live life to its fullest by promoting a healthy lifestyle, and prevent—or live better with—injury, illness, or disability.
As a high school student, I sustained a hand injury and after working with a therapist was able to return to competitive cheerleading; this drove me to pursue a career in Occupational Therapy where I could pay it forward by helping others return to activities in their life that mean the most to them.
So if you know an Occupational Therapist or have been treated by one in the past, give them an extra shout out this month or special thoughts in your prayers to acknowledge them for what they do!
