Therapist providing treatment:

Sarah Oberle-Cheatham, OTD, OTR/L

Through a partnership with the Central Institute for the Deaf (CID), our occupational therapists have gained extensive experience working with children who are deaf or hard of hearing and are specially trained to communicate effectively with the kids and their families. Within the hearing, balance, and participation program, our goal is to help kids succeed in everyday activities so that they can do the things they most want to do. Whether it’s teaching a child a new skill or altering an activity so that the child can do it successfully, our team is here to help.

We work closely with speech-language pathologists, audiologists, ENTs, teachers, school administrators, and other professionals as appropriate to ensure that we can provide the most comprehensive support services available, all-the-while involving the whole family every step of the way.

We work with kids and families to:

  • build or rebuild skills related to developmental delays, including vestibular dysfunction and genetic conditions
  • explore social, play, self-care, motor, cognitive, and sensory performance activities
  • develop personalized strategies and routines for positive emotional and behavioral self-regulation
  • guide parents and caregivers about community resources and social support systems available.

Whether it’s at CID or in our clinic, our occupational therapists evaluate, consult, and treat children with hearing and balance concerns so that we can limit and remove barriers to participation at home, school or in the community. We look at each child’s unique needs and abilities, and partner with them and their families to address any concerns that may exist so that we can foster healthy development and stimulate learning.
