Adults and children with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) and/or Conversion Disorder may experience a variety of difficulties on a day-to-day basis including:
- Challenges with motor issues including walking, grabbing or holding items, manipulating items, and having the energy to do tasks they need to do.
- Encounter cognitive issues including attending to tasks, processing information, and recalling where items are or what they went to do.
- Face sensory processing issues including hypersensitivity to environment and low awareness of body signals (hunger and thirst).
Washington University Occupational Therapy FND treatment places focus on:
- Learning your triggers of FND
- Implementing strategies to manage triggers of FND
- Implementing strategies that help manage FND symptoms
- Improving understanding of the neurological and biological aspects of your condition
HOW OUR PROGRAM WORKS
• Assess how the person, task, and environment factors interact together
• Utilize a collaborative coaching approach between the therapist, patient, and family
• Make recommendations for changes and educate patient and family with adaptive strategies and self-management techniques for maximizing independence in daily tasks.
• Educate on ways to support within daily setting

- Virtual for patients in Missouri and Illinois
