We are pleased to announce that we are now offering Pediatric Visual Disorders services. Sight is one of our most important senses and any deficit in vision can affect a child’s ability to learn and engage in daily activities. Visual disorders in children can include both deficits in their visual acuity and in their visual field. Visual acuity includes how clearly you can see small details both up close and far away. If a child’s visual acuity is impacted it can affect his or her ability to read, navigate through a crowd, button a shirt, etc. Visual field refers to your ability to see all of your surroundings, including your peripheral vision. If a child’s visual field is impacted it can affect his or her ability to read and write, safely mobilize in the community, complete dressing and hygiene tasks, etc.
Within occupational therapy we are able to help teach children and their family strategies to improve their ability to be successful at home, in school, and out in the community.
Our occupational therapists evaluate and treat children with visual disorders so that we can remove barriers and improve participation at home, school, or in the community. We look at each child’s unique abilities and work together with the child and their family to address any concerns and promote independence.
